History Central Fire Station is home to Truck Company #2 of the Greensburg Fire Department. On January 12, 1891, it began as Hose Company #2, which was part of the original organization of the volunteer fire department. This downtown house contains most of the department's special equipment. The members are very proud of the 1988 Pierce 105 foot tillered ladder truck. This truck is equipped with some of the latest technological equipment available in the industry. Also housed at this station is a 1987 Chevrolet High Expansion Foam apparatus. This truck is capable of producing 26,500 cubic feet of high expansion foam per minute as well as a concentrate of standard foam. The large 70,600 CFM fan is used for rapid ventilation of a structure thereby assisting in the safety of the personnel working the fire. Another piece of equipment manned by this company is a Breathing Apparatus Servicing or Air Truck. With an onboard compressor and cascade system, this truck is capable of serving 4500psi breathing apparatus system, as well as supporting the department's air bag rescue system and the confined space rescue equipment. A utility truck used for supplemental foam and tubing transport runs out of this station as well. This versatile vehicle is also used to transport the department's Bloodhound Search Team, and the company is responsible for transporting and supplying the manpower for the boats that support the Underwater Rescue Team. Truck Company #2 plays a very strategic role in specialty support with the five engine companies of the Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department. |
