The Shuey Burger was named after Lou Shuey in the '70's. He is a lifelong member of the fire department and he is always there to help. One day some guy said, "Hey, give me one of those Shuey burgers," and that was it.
The hose company built it's burger stand in 1973-74 and since then, Shuey burgers have become a hit with customers. The burger bashes, held five times a year, are also a hit with the volunteers who cut onions, cook and clean up.
At each of the Shuey Burger events, about 450-500 pounds of hamburger are used. That's about 2,700 burgers on a busy Saturday.
The burgers also are sold during the hose company's yearly carnival.
